Sweetwater Farms
Sweetwater Farms Riding School was established in 1985. As one of the largest riding schools in southern California, Sweetwater Farms is dedicated to personal attention and quality instruction. We have a large H/J lesson program, and we also offer western and trail lessons. Roberta Jackson, owner of Sweetwater Farms says, "what we hope our lessons can offer you is a FUN recreation that not only teaches you the skill of riding, but also offers you great life lessons such as confidence in yourself, compassion, patience, and goal-oriented solutions. For young people, being involved in riding horses is unlike any other activity or sport."
"They are teamed with an animal of massive size and strength which they learn to understand and respect. They learn to become a team. It's the same with adults, there really is no difference. The relationship between horse and rider is ageless, for example, I look at any adult woman caring for her horse or beaming with joy after jumping her first jump, and I see a happy little girl. Horses can bring out the kid in all of us. Not only are they fun, they are mindful teachers."

Riding School Lessons are customized to a riders individual needs. Whether you are a brand new rider, casual rider or goal oriented rider, we have a program for you. Our lessons are for riders age 4 to adult. Prices include the use of one of our wonderful horses, saddle and equipment. You will need boots with a flat sole and low heel. We have helmets available for borrow in your first month. A variety of packages are offered including a "Horses 101" introductory lesson.

Pony Time is designed specifically for beginner children ages 4 - 7 years of age and serves as an introduction to general horsemanship. Throughout the program children will learn many needed skills such as how to lead, groom, tack, bathe, riding at the walk (with and without the saddle), horse anatomy, and safety. Some lessons throughout the program do not include riding and are intended to improve overall horsemanship skills.  Long pants and closed toed shoes with a slight heel are required. Helmets are provided. This is a perfect way to find out if your child or grandchild is going to be interested in horses before having to purchase any gear and/or commit to serious lessons. lessons are 30-45 minutes in length.*Children Ages 6-7 typically outgrow this program in 12 to 24 sessions.

Training Barn / Show Team is for the rider who owns or leases their horse. We customize your riding program to meet your personal needs and goals. Many of our riders ride on our Show Team while many riders choose to only show occasionally or not at all. Whether you show or not, your program can be as challenging or casual as you desire it to be. One of the  GREAT ADVANTAGES to training at Sweetwater is that we hosts 10 county level GSDHJA show and 4 ISHA shows each year. Our students are able to compete right here on the grounds and are encouraged to take part in the process of putting on a horse show. By participating  in our shows, riders are able to accrue points towards year-end awards for both GSDHJA  and the Sweetwater Show Series. Our shows offer classes at the Walk- Trot level to advance classes such as 3'6 Jumpers. In addition to showing at home, our Show Team attends GSDHJA county level shows. We always have a big group attend the Championship Show and have a GREAT time!

We have a number of wonderful suitable horses to offer for lease Our annual Partial and Full Leases  can give you the experience of owning your own horse without the full  financial obligation. Show Month Leases give you a taste of owning your own horse by allowing you to  practice on the same horse for the month and then compete in a show. Show Day Leases are for the day of the show.
